3 Fall Wardrobe Staples to Add to Your Closet

There’s finally a chill in the air here in Texas, which means I am officially in the mood for cozy fall fabrics and everything pumpkin spice. I just refreshed my closet with some fall wardrobe staples from Talbots, and I know they will be on repeat during these next few months.

If you haven’t heard, Talbots is having their Friends and Family Homecoming Event right now which means you get 30% off your entire purchase through October 31st, 2018. It’s such a great time to add to your fall and winter wardrobe! I typically buy classic pieces that I know will always be in style year after year, and these are the 3 fall wardrobe staples that I can’t live without.

TWEED

Tweed is one of my all time favorite fall fabrics! It looks and feels so cozy, and it can be dressed up or down. This tweed dress from Talbots is the perfect length and would be great for work, church, or even a fall brunch. I am obsessed with the fringe hem detail!

CASHMERE

It doesn’t get much better than cashmere! This cozy cashmere sweater is the softest thing I own, and it can completely turn around a cold, dreary day. I am not a fan of turtlenecks, so I always opt for a mockneck like this. The sleeves might be my favorite thing about this sweater. They are loose fitting, and the length is perfect for showing off a pretty watch or bracelet.

FLEECE

When it’s really cold outside, fleece is the only thing on my mind. This gorgeous fleece-trim quilted jacket is the epitome of casual chic. I would wear this with anything from yoga pants to a dressy work outfit. I love that it’s fitted in all the right places. No frumpiness here!

A MINIMALIST GUIDE TO HOME DÉCOR

This post is sponsored by Cortland; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

When it comes to decorating a space, I have always believed that less is more. If you have been following my social media posts lately, you’ll know that I’ve been transitioning into a more minimalist lifestyle. I love clean, open spaces that are free from clutter. This can be difficult to adhere to for many reasons, but it can be especially difficult when we want to choose the perfect minimalist home decor to decorate a space. I am here to tell you that you can still achieve a beautifully decorated space without going overboard and buying ALL. THE. THINGS.

I am partnering with Cortland, an owner and manager of more than 26 apartment communities in Dallas, to bring you this minimalist home decor guide with a few practical things to consider when styling your space, whether that space is an apartment or your own home. If you live in the Dallas area and are looking for an amazing rental property, be sure to check out Cortland and follow them on social media. Cortland has a team of interior designers who style each community’s gorgeous living spaces. Cortland has some of the most beautiful apartment communities in DFW!

OPT FOR NEUTRAL COLOR AND CLASSIC STYLES

I have always found neutral colors to be calming, and that is what I have stuck to for most of my adult life. Choosing neutral colors is also a great decorating strategy, and it doesn’t mean that your space has to be boring! If you love bright, bold colors you can still incorporate those into the room in other ways (with colorful throw pillows, brightly colored books, bold wall art, etc.) You’ll find that you can change up the look of the space much more easily if you have a solid neutral base. If you are investing in more expensive furniture, consider choosing classic pieces that you’ll still love even as your style evolves though the years. The last thing you want to do is spend a lot of money on something trendy that will look dated in 2 years.

CHOOSE EASY-TO-CLEAN FURNITURE

If it were up to me, all furniture would be slip-covered! Whether you have a house with kids, pets, or even a messy husband, slip-covered couches and chairs always feel fresh and new. My living room furniture is all slip-covered and super easy to wash. It’s also great to have throw pillows with removable pillow cases. This not only means they’ll be easy to wash, but you’ll also be able to easily change them up for different seasons or a change in color preference instead of buying all new pillows.

INVEST IN FIXTURES AND DRAPERIES

If you own your home, consider investing in classic, well-crafted light fixtures and draperies as they can immediately elevate a space. Since these items often stay with the house when it comes time to sell, these pieces will add to the overall value of your home and could very well impress potential buyers.

SHOP YOUR HOUSE BEFORE HEADING TO THE STORE

When decorating a room, I don’t just run out to a store and buy things to fill the space. I like to slowly decorate over time by adding things that I love as I find them. Sometimes I’ll find these things at a store, but oftentimes it’s from another room in the house. If you are like me and love saving money, go see what amazing things you can find stored in a closet or attic. Is there a piece in your bedroom that you absolutely love but it doesn’t really go with the room? Try moving it to the room you’re decorating and see if it meets a need in that space. I move things around quite a bit in my house. Not only does this save me money, but it makes me feel good that I’m giving new life to things I already own.

CHOOSE DÉCOR THAT SERVES A PURPOSE

It’s easy to get caught up in the world of knick knacks. You know…those little trinkets that you come across that you think are so pretty and match perfectly with this or that. All of this extra stuff can overwhelm a space, especially if that space is a two-bedroom apartment.

I try to minimize knick knacks as much as possible. You may have a blank table that you feel “needs” something on it, but an important thing to remember is that it’s okay to have a blank space. If I feel that an area needs a little something, I try to decorate with things that serve a purpose, such as books, candles, plants, and throw blankets. A decorative bowl can be a gorgeous addition to a coffee table while also holding necessities like remotes and keys. A vintage trunk is a stylish piece that can serve as a table top and provide storage. Use your imagination and have fun with it!

ADD SOME PERSONAL TOUCHES

I love having things around my home that are personal to me, like art that my husband made or a framed photo from one of my favorite trips. These things not only bring me joy when I see them every day, but they also serve as a conversation starter when guests come over. If you have a family heirloom that’s sitting in the closet, consider displaying it! We have an old sewing machine that was passed down to us from my husband’s great grandmother. It’s now prominently displayed in our living room and it serves as a side table for photos and candles. When you have a personal connection to the things around you, you’ll enjoy your space so much more!

Whether you own a large house or you’re renting a small apartment, be intentional with what you fill your home with and surround yourself with things that bring you peace and happiness.

I would love to hear about your approach to home decorating. Leave me a comment with the number one thing you consider when decorating a space!

Kick Off Fall with a Self-Care Makeover

One of the most important things to me right now is self-care. It’s easy to get caught up in our busy lives and not take time for ourselves, and that’s just not a good way to live. My goal moving forward is to take care of myself more, both mentally and physically. Babbleboxx sent me an amazing box of goodies that are helping me kick start my self-care makeover, and they are products that I know you will love too!

4 Essentials for the Perfect Self-Care Makeover

Earth Brands Shoes

You guys know that I love anything and everything blush pink. When I saw these sneakers from Earth Brands Shoes, I instantly fell in love! The style I’m wearing in this photo is the “Zinnia” and the style I’m holding is the “Gallivant“. I can’t tell you how great they feel on! I brought them with me on my Israel trip because I knew I’d be doing a LOT of walking, and this color goes with pretty much everything.

One of the many things I love about this brand is that they plant a tree with every purchase (in partnership with trees.org). How cool is that? These should be on everyone’s self-care makeover list, especially if you appreciate on-trend, high-quality, comfortable shoes.

Aveo Hello

I have been known to wear my 2 week disposable contact lenses much longer than 2 weeks. This is not good at all for my eye health, and it can lead to really serious issues down the road. I am trying to get better about changing them out, and Aveo Hello makes this so easy! They make these hydrating, breathable daily use contact lenses, so you can just throw them away at the end of each day and start over with a brand new pair the next day. I think even I can stick to that! They provide UV protection and naturally biocompatible all-day hydration, so my eyes don’t feel dry like they used to.

Their monthly subscription service is actually affordable (less than $1 a day) with free shipping and an entire month of free lenses when you sign up. Just send in your prescription to get started with Aveo!

Maidenform

I have been a fan of Maidenform bras for as long as I can remember, so I was super excited to see this gorgeous convertible body briefer in my Babbleboxx! This beauty does a great job of smoothing my waistline, which helps me to feel more comfortable in form fitting dresses. It has removable straps so it can be worn with most outfits. Yay for versatility! I don’t love wearing strapless undergarments because they can sometimes shift around and be uncomfortable, but this body briefer has silicone on the top back to help keep it in place. I love the hourglass look it creates, and the fit is just perfect! Learn more about Maidenform and get your own here.

Summer’s Eve

I’ll just cut to the chase – these Summer’s Eve products are life-changing! I carry these individually wrapped Coconut Water Cleansing Cloths with me everywhere, so I am always feeling fresh. The Lavender + Chamomile Cleansing Wash rinses away odor-causing bacteria, and it smells so good! Lavender is such a calming scent, so it’s especially nice to use in the evening before I get into bed. I have used their feminine care products for years, and these two are quickly becoming my favorites.

I hope this post will inspire your own self-care makeover! Many of us spend our lives working and caring for others, and we also deserve that level of care. It’s not about being selfish, it’s about respecting and loving ourselves.

Have you tried any of these products? I’d love to hear what you have done for yourself lately, or if there are any products that elevate your quality of life. Let me know in the comments!

Best Things to Do in Notting Hill

Last May, Garrett and I took a trip to London during the week of the Royal Wedding. We had been to London once before and knew that this time we wanted to stay in Notting Hill. This place has always been special to us because we went to see the movie “Notting Hill” on our first date wayyy back in 1999. It’s such a charming, quaint neighborhood full of cute cafes, colorful buildings, and flowers around every corner. We loved exploring this area of London, and I’ve been dying to share with you the best things to do in Notting Hill so that you can add some of these to your own London itinerary!

best things to do in notting hill

Since we decided to stay in an Airbnb, we were able to experience Notting Hill as a local and we truly got a feel for what it would be like to live there. The apartment was in Linden Gardens, just a short walk to the Notting Hill Gate tube stop. We were close enough to walk to most places in Notting Hill, as well as Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, and Kensington High Street.

Where to go in Notting Hill

Westbourne Grove

Westbourne Grove is probably the most bustling shopping area in Notting Hill. If you’re looking for trendy shops and restaurants, this is the place you want to be. There’s something for everyone!

The Notting Hill Bookshop

This is the bookshop that inspired the movie “Notting Hill”, although it’s not the actual bookshop where the movie was filmed. It’s still an adorable place that is worth the stop. If you want to see the actual filming location of the bookshop in the movie, head over to Travel Book Shop at 142 Portobello Road. They don’t really have books for sale, but you will find lots of little trinkets and souvenirs.

Ladbroke Grove

Ladbroke Grove is another main road that goes through Notting Hill, and it’s a great place to go on a photo walk. There are lots of beautiful buildings, churches, and quaint side streets (although I could say the same for the rest of Notting Hill as well). You really can’t go wrong anywhere in Notting Hill when it comes to photography, but Ladbroke Grove is a great place to start!

Portobello Road Market

One of our favorite things to do in Notting Hill is visit the Portobello Road Market. The streets are lined with vendors selling all sorts of items from vintage tea cups to Banana Nutella Crepes. In other words… all of my favorite things! If you want to shop for antiques, you’ll want to go on a Friday or Saturday. It gets pretty crowded, so I suggest getting there as early as possible.

Where to Eat in Notting Hill

Granger & Co.

The first place we went after we checked into our Airbnb was Granger & Co. If you’re looking for a cute place to have brunch, this is a great option. They also serve lunch and dinner, and their menu has a fairly large variety.

Durbar Tandoori

Did you know that London is known for its great Indian food? I had no idea! We stumbled upon Durbar Tandoori one evening, where we had an amazing dinner and ate way too much Chicken Tikka Masala.

best things to do in notting hill

Osteria Basilico

In the mood for Italian? Osteria Basilico is another great place we found one day when we needed to grab a quick lunch. I had the Tortelloni with Spinach and Ricotta Cheese. So yummy!

Market Thai

We didn’t make it to Market Thai during this trip, but we have fond memories of it from a few years ago. It’s some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had, and the interior of the restaurant is so unique. Great place for a date night!

best things to do in notting hill

The Churchill Arms

I had seen photos of The Churchill Arms online, so I knew I wanted to stop by and see the pretty floral exterior. We grabbed a few drinks there and found out that they also serve Thai food. Totally didn’t expect that from a pub! We didn’t try it that night, but definitely will next time.

The Champion

We got lucky having this little gem so close to our apartment. They have amazing burgers and other pub food, but we especially loved that they have a pub quiz on Tuesday nights. You have to experience a traditional pub quiz while you’re in London, and you might as well do it where Queen used to hang out (the band, not Elizabeth)! It’s also a dog friendly pub, so you may even get to pet some cute pups while you’re there.

best things to do in notting hill          best things to do in notting hill

Paul Rhodes Bakery

Another place that was just around the corner from our apartment was this adorable little bakery and coffee shop! It was a great place to grab coffee and a quick bite on our way to the tube stop each morning. Their scones are to die for, and I’ve been dreaming about them ever since!

Unico Gelato

If you get a craving for ice cream while in Notting Hill, this is the place to go! We couldn’t find any actual ice cream shops in the area, but Unico Gelato was the closest thing to it. They have the yummiest gelato and other Italian desserts!

best things to do in notting hill          best things to do in notting hill

Biscuiteers

You’ve probably seen this little biscuit shop on Instagram or Pinterest, and it’s definitely worth stopping by! They make the most adorable hand-iced biscuits (cookies for us Americans), and they’re almost too pretty to eat. If nothing else, you at least have to stop by for a photo. It’s seriously the cutest!

Nando’s

We actually weren’t able to visit Nando’s this time around, but I really wish we had! Nando’s is a fast food chain that sells Portuguese-style Chicken. It’s super popular with the locals, so definitely add this to your list if you want to experience the area as a true Londoner.

best things to do in notting hill          best things to do in notting hill

If you guys have been to Notting Hill, I would love to hear what you enjoyed most about the area. Have you been to any of these places? Let me know in the comments, and feel free to message me if you have any questions about planning your own Notting Hill trip!

Polished Picks – August 2018

August is always a weird month for me when it comes to fashion. It’s still summer and BEYOND hot outside, yet I am already in the mood for fall outfits. My current favorites for this month are summery, but could easily transition into fall. Navy and blush pink are colors that will work for any season!

On a slightly off-topic note, if you’ve noticed less blog posts from me lately, there is a reason for that. I have really been evaluating where I want this blog to go and the type of content I want to share. This has always been primarily a fashion blog, and although I LOVE fashion, I have felt the pressure to keep buying clothing and other things that I don’t really need just to have new outfits to share with you all. I am a minimalist at heart, and lately I have just felt overwhelmed with all of this unnecessary “stuff” in my life. Because of this, you will probably start seeing a change in the type of content I share.

I still want to talk about fashion and beauty, but perhaps just in a different way. Living a minimalist lifestyle does not mean that I won’t be buying new things, or sharing my current favorites (like in this post). It simply means that I will be more intentional with what I buy and will only surround myself with the things that bring me joy. To take a phrase from one of my absolute favorite brands, Cuyana, I want to start buying fewer, better things. I am truly committed to living a more minimalist, intentional life, and I will definitely be sharing my journey with you guys in hopes that it may inspire you to do the same.

The Best Jeans for Every Body Type

Shopping for jeans can be frustrating, but nothing compares to that glorious feeling you get when you find a pair that fits perfectly! I take my denim pretty seriously because a good high-quality pair of jeans should last for years and years. Talbots has an AMAZING denim selection, and their Ultimate Jeans Style Guide will help you find the perfect jeans for every body type.

Jeans for Every Body Type

Jeans for Every Body Type          Jeans for Every Body Type

The pair I’m wearing in these photos is the Talbots Denim Jegging in Leo Wash, which is one of their skinny styles. I am VERY picky about my jeans, and very rarely find a pair that fits me perfectly. I can honestly say these are my new favorites! They hug me in all the right places, and the pockets are perfectly placed (which is super important and can make or break a pair of jeans). Skinny is their most fitted silhouette, which sits closest to the body through the hips, thighs, knees, and leg opening.

Jeans for Every Body Type          Jeans for Every Body Type

The best part about these jeans is the fabric. It has just the right amount of stretch that doesn’t get loose throughout the day. You know what I’m talking about — don’t you just hate that? These are so comfortable, and I know they will look just as good at the end of the day as they did when I put them on in the morning.

Dark wash skinny jeans are my favorite in the fall because they look so great with boots. It’s pretty much all I wear during the cooler months! Plus, it’s such a classic style that I know I will be able to wear for many years.

Jeans for Every Body Type          Jeans for Every Body Type

Jeans for Every Body Type          Jeans for Every Body Type

Whether you prefer skinny, slim, straight, boot cut, or relaxed, Talbots is sure to have your perfect fit. I feel like some brands try to get by with one style of denim jeans that they expect everyone to fit into. Yes, they may have a range of sizes available, but it’s not just about size. It’s about the shape, style, and overall fit. We all have different bodies, so shouldn’t we have a wide selection of jeans for every body type out there? Talbots totally gets it, and I love that they truly care about and celebrate every woman’s shape and size.

Plunge Neck Dress + Nordstrom Giveaway

Sometimes you just gotta take the plunge and wear a dress that will push you a bit out of your comfort zone. This plunge neck dress is perfect in every way, and I was immediately drawn to its super feminine, vintage vibe.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about wearing something so low-cut, but I actually love it! Everything else about this dress is pretty modest, so it balances out the plunge neck perfectly. I don’t feel like it’s too revealing at all (especially since I don’t have much going on up top any way).
